I am just logging on to this site. Joe was the smartest person in our Algebra 2 class, and always made the teacher spitting mad...! Sad to see him on this list.
The only record I could find of Joe's death was at http://www.tributes.com/show/73031026, which indicates only that he died on April 27, 1995 at age 41.
I think there are some others in the class who know more about Joe's life and death, so maybe they'll chime in. So very sad. I remember Joe (aka Happy Pebble) from Don Benito, and how he always had the messiest desk but was super smart, especially in math and science. Drove the teachers nuts, as Svetlana said. What a loss. We need people like him who operate outside the norms but can make a difference because they're so smart.
